I lift the small bundle of letters to my nose, smiling sadly at the scent of lavender.
These letters are all I have left. Settling in my chair, I open the first one carefully.
Her attempts to make her scribble legible make me smile, even as the words make me ache for her.
She wrote me every day. In each letter it’s evident that she was getting sicker, but she’d wanted to make sure I’d always have her love.
I pause, my emotions too much to bear.
Wiping away my tears, I whisper, “I love you, too, my Bella. Always.”
