Biting my lip, I watch him closely as he ever-so-carefully handles the antique camera – my birthday present to him.
His voice is reverent, his touch feather-light. “Ed, where did you get this? It’s…”
He trails off. His eyes meet mine.
“The guy at the shop said it still works like a charm. Want to try it out?”
He nods, grinning and nonchalantly fiddling with the settings.
I know him well, though, and I lift my camera to snap a picture of him taking one of me.
He laughs, putting both cameras down before kissing me.
“Happy Birthday, Jasper,” I murmur.
